TALK & WORKSHOPS

“What does art ask of you?” TedX talk, March 28, 2021. Curator and educator Amy Halliday shares how her life was changed by an encounter with contemporary art as a teenager in South Africa. Many people have questions about contemporary art, but how often do we consider the questions art asks of us?

WORKSHOPS, FACILITATION & SPEAKING

With over a decade of teaching and public programming experience across formal and informal learning environments, I can design, facilitate and present a keynote talk, workshop series, group training, public or professional development program, or in-person/virtual course that is tailored to your needs.

Selected speaking/training areas:

  • How to Craft Your Artist’s Statement

  • Contemporary Art for Difficult Discussions

  • Learning to Look at Contemporary Art

  • Women/Artists: A Herstory of Art

  • Exploding the (Art Historical) Canon: Theory and Practice

  • The History / Future of Museums

  • Art, Activism, and Social Change

  • Teaching with Art & Exhibitions

  • Language Matters: Inclusive Label Writing Practices

A Masters in Teaching (MAT) underpins my pedagogical practice, informed by the latest research in the learning sciences. When working alongside museums and in exhibitions, I use Object-Based Learning (OBL) — which locates art and artefacts as the core of active learning encounters — to design curriculum and classes, workshops, programs, and participatory engagement activities.

How to Craft your Artist’s Statement, professional development workshop with Oakland Art Murmur and Project Art Together, April 2023. Oakland, California.

One of the things that stands out about Amy is her ability to make complex concepts easy to understand. She has a talent for breaking down complex ideas and theories into digestible pieces, making it easier for students to grasp and retain the information. Her enthusiasm for the subject was contagious and kept students engaged throughout.
